OneStar Asset Mapping Program

Met with Erin Brackney of OneStar yesterday. They are working working to create the "Connector", a pilot website that displays information on nonprofits in a geo-mapping format called an "asset map" with intentions of providing this tool to serve all of Texas.

She suggests that we check out the tool and to share it with our colleagues so that our feedback may be considered while it is still in the development stages.

Please keep in mind and please let your colleagues know that the data set for the map is for the prototype ONLY, and thus it is incomplete and in the midst of the development stages and may still have a few bugs.

First Gathering of Texas CFs in San Antonio

Met at Rosario’s Restaurant in San Antonio on October 6. Attendees list below.

Nancy Jones facilitated conversation asking how each thought they could benefit through closer collaboration. Responses included: Shared expertise and resources, less time wasted in research over various issues, better response and support than national listserves, create a presence to represent industry regarding state legislation, closer proximity, more collaboration around regional issues such as border state issues and state regulations.

When asked about possible meeting times/locations the following consensus was reached: Meeting should be one day and one evening, open to all staff, with separate tracks for programs, financial, etc., held on annual basis. Ken Gladish of The Austin Community Foundation offered to organize the first meeting to be held in February in the Central Texas area.

It was discussed that all community foundations should be invited to participate whether or not a member of the Council and that the association would include only community foundations.

Several individuals volunteered to assist with programming - those names are highlighted.
